The Sport programme at Queen Ethelburga's encapsulates all core and academic PE lessons, tournament, fixtures and sports related activities that foster endeavour beyond the measurable outcomes of examination results. Engaging in anything beyond the classroom will help students develop a wider skill set and ensure they really can be 'The best they can with the gifts they have'.

The aim of this job role is to provide students with a range of opportunities across the Collegiate and also provide organisational support for the PE department. A keen interest in Sport and an understanding of how cover in the department needs to be approached and sports fixtures and competitions work is essential.

This is a busy and varied position and you would play a key role in delivering high quality administrative support and be the first point of contact for all enquiries into the department.

You will be dealing with a wide variety of people every day and no two days will be the same.

It needs a person with strong attention to detail, possessing great planning, organisational and time management skills and with a passion for delivering high quality and a wide range of options for our students and staff body.

The purpose of the role is to support successful coordination of all the core and enrichment lessons and activities, already on offer and ensure the delivery of a high-quality programme at all times for our students and utilizing the many talents of our highly experienced staff, including IAPS and ISA Sports and local events and tournaments and using Graduate Sports Assistants across the collegiate terms and holidays.

The PE Department

Within Sport we currently have twenty-two full-time members of staff that are very enthusiastic and are committed to delivering outstanding teaching. Academically, we have a strong reputation for delivering excellent results, particularly in Key Stage 5, where we offer A-Level PE and B-Tec Sport. In Key Stage 4, we offer GCSE and B-Tec Sport. We feel that by offering the courses we do; it captures the different learning styles so that all students have the opportunity to excel.

We offer a broad and challenging core sports curriculum for all age groups, that is designed so every student can get the very best out of themselves, living by our school motto "To be the best I can, with the gift I have".

At Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate, we have world-class facilities that are used by many National and International professional sporting organisations, which enables our students to try out a variety of sports and to learn the importance of health and fitness within a safe environment, regardless of individual abilities. We also aim to pursue excellence through our Performance Pathway, where students who have ambitious aspirations, get to work with the coaches within their chosen sport to accelerate their development in the hope it will equipe them with the skills they need to move to the next level and beyond. Our department is a fun, yet professionally supportive environment, where there are many CPD opportunities to get involved in, both internally and externally, to keep everyone's career moving forward.

Your duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Manage and communicate the weekly cover needed within the department

  • Ensure all catering, transport and grounds needs for the week ahead are communicated via the weekly roundup sheet

  • Manage the physio and massage appointments on a weekly basis

  • Collate and order the packed lunches for the lunch time sessions

  • Manage Evolve and ensure student medical issues are communicated with the relevant staff.

  • Communicate with the medical staff and pass on any information or medication that is needed for any students that require it whilst they are in our care

  • Manage the facilities and highlight key dates that affect the delivery of our subject


  • Support for Students

  • Produce well-rounded university applicants and offer our students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of regular sporting events and workshops

  • Enrichment activities and lessons that hone students for their chosen careers and demonstrate their passion for

  • Deepen and enrich sport knowledge and participation across all 4 schools

  • Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations

  • Support students consistently, recognising and responding to their individual needs

  • Encourage students to interact and work co-operatively with others, and engage all students in activities

  • Provide feedback to students in relation to competitions, tournament and at KS5 university application progress and achievement


  • The role

  • Work with the Head of Department and key staff in and outside the department to design and manage innovative and high quality core PE lessons and activities to take place on site and offsite every day

  • Research and organise external events such as workshops, masterclasses, conferences, competitions, work experience across all 4 schools

  • Liaise with QE alumni and parents to utilise skills, experiences, job roles and links with the wider school community helping students to prepare for interviews and the wider world of work outside of QE

  • Build relationships with local schools to create opportunities for students to apply their knowledge, techniques and commitment to a range of sports

  • Develop and deliver a unique activities programme using Graduate Sports Assistants and Teaching Assistants and other key staff outside of term time and on weekends., Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop

  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the Collegiate.

  • Organise and deliver sessions as part of the role above

  • Attend and participate in regular meetings, inset and directed time

  • Participate in training and other learning activities as required

  • Supervise students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required

  • Promote the collegiate and its students positively at all times

    Be highly motivated and demonstrate a commitment to high standards of learning, fun and sports-related skills

  • Have evidence of well-developed administration skills and a high level of IT literacy, to include experience of data manipulation within Excel, Sharepoint and Word as well as Microsoft Teams for communication

  • Experience of taking minutes and collating action points from formal meetings

  • Excellent planning and organization, together with problem-solving abilities to achieve deadlines when faced with conflicting demands

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills through a range of relevant media, along with the ability to form strong working relationships with a wide range of people across the collegiate and beyond

  • Experience of delivering excellent customer service through effective team working and the ability to work effectively

  • Offer all students an innovative and effective sporting experience, with an emphasis on participation and performance at all key stages
