Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Counsellor for Clinical Support to provide clinical, practical and emotional support to SRASAC Bank Counsellors who provide counselling to adults - including line management and pastoral support (not clinical supervision)., This Senior Counsellor for Clinical Support will work alongside other Senior Counsellors, the Services Manager and the Counselling Support Worker to ensure the smooth running of the SRASAC Counselling Service, as well as working to uphold and build on SRASAC's high standards of clinical practice., Sheffield Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (SRASAC) is a specialist sexual violence support service offering free and confidential support to survivors who have experienced rape or sexual abuse at any times in their lives.

SRASAC currently offers:

  • A dedicated confidential information and support line for anyone who wants to know more about our services.

  • Specialist counselling for survivors.

  • Group Work.

  • Support through the criminal justice system from reporting incidents to the police through the investigations and to trial, via our Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) service for everyone - children, young people and adults (no age limits to this service).

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    Counselling Team:
  • To lead and develop the SRASAC Counselling Service together with the other Senior Counsellors to ensure a safe, consistent, high quality, responsive and clinically robust adult counselling service.

  • To lead on developing and updating policies and procedures within the counselling team in line with BACP and other best practice guidelines.

  • To work as part of the Counselling Team to maintain the clinical practice standards in line with organisational policies and procedures, the BACP Ethical Framework and the Data Protection Act.

  • To be involved in the recruitment, induction, mentoring, development and retention of bank and volunteer counsellors, with the support of the other two Senior Counsellors.

  • To lead on Safeguarding within the Counselling Team in collaboration with the Service Manager, Chief Executive and the wider team.

  • To work alongside the other Senior Counsellors to manage the performance of the counselling service.

  • To contribute to the ongoing evaluation and effectiveness of the counselling service.


  • Clinical Support:
  • To be responsible for monitoring the wellbeing, health and safety, training and personal development of the Bank and Volunteer Counsellors, as well as the Counselling Support Worker.

  • To approve counselling extensions and requests on clinical grounds.

  • To provide a monthly evening peer support group for the counsellors.

  • To provide line-management to the bank counsellors (not supervision) and to conduct twice yearly 1-1 reviews with bank counsellors to support their performance, growth and development at SRASAC.

  • To ensure that all counsellors are up to date with supervision, CPD requirements, and Safeguarding Training.

  • To ensure the safety of all clients through implementation of SRASAC safeguarding procedures.

  • To work as part of SRASAC's wider Team in leading and supporting the work of the organisation.


  • General:
  • To actively promote and ensure good equal opportunities practice and work in a non-discriminatory and anti-oppressive manner.

  • To undertake any training necessary to carry out the duties of the post.

  • To maintain own accreditation and any CPD in line with the post.

  • To undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the post as required by the Services Manager, Chief Executive and/or Board of Trustees.

  • To keep up to date with current policies and developments in relation to clinical management, sexual abuse and the violence against women and girls' sector.

  • To participate in meetings, management meetings and service planning discussions as required.
