Full Job Description

PE Teacher for pupils between the ages of 2 and 11., The role will work to secure and sustain effective teaching, evaluate the quality of pupils' achievements and set targets for improvement for the pupils. They will:

  • To be an excellent teacher and be passionate about their subject;

  • To contribute to and develop high quality schemes of work as well as appropriate and effective short-term planning in collaboration with other members of the department;

  • To support the Head of Highfield with implementing strategies to improve the delivery of PE

  • To attend departmental meetings, as appropriate

  • To make appropriate and best use of support assistants in the lesson;

  • To encourage a positive learning environment;

  • To have a willingness to engage in professional development in order to remain up to date in their understanding of teaching and learning.

  • To organise and publish to staff the planning for each week.

  • To arrange fixtures/festivals for all Highfield pupils in Key Stage 2 and ensure communication to parents is clear and in good time.

  • To organise Sports Day for Pre-School, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2

  • To line manage all aspects the Highfield assistants who help in PE

  • To promote the Highfield sporting values


  • Pastoral Responsibilities:
  • To carry out pastoral duties in accordance with the school's pastoral policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils.

  • To ensure that each pupil is given the individual attention s/he requires.


  • General Responsibilities:
  • To participate in appropriate meetings with colleagues and parents to facilitate the above.

  • To contribute to the school's extra-curricular programme.

  • Specific duties include:
  • Ensuring that expectations of dress, behaviour and work ethic are closely monitored and clearly communicated to all pupils.

  • Being expected to award rewards and sanctions in line with School Policy;

  • Being aware of requirements for ISI inspections and contribution to updating of policies, documents, lesson plans as requested

    We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced PE Teacher to deliver teaching and coaching to pupils ages 2-11 in Highfield. You will be able to deliver teaching in a range of sports including Cricket, Netball, Athletics, Football and Rugby. Football coaching experience would be advantageous., Ability to liaise with other teaching and coaching staff and work in co-operation with colleagues.

  • Ability to motivate pupils through the use of a variety of teaching and coaching methods and the setting of appropriate goals and monitoring of progress.

  • Ability to assess, monitor and report on pupils' progress.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to effectively manage, organise and control pupils' working.

  • Ability to successfully encourage pupils to the highest standards of individual achievement.

  • Ability to adopt flexible teaching and learning strategies.

  • Ability to develop productive working relationships with parents.

  • Demonstrable track record of coaching in any sport

  • Experience of engaging and including children in sport and physical activity, regardless of their levels of ability, and of positively influencing their parents., Passionate about sport and physical activity as a tool for transformational change within individuals.

  • Resilient and determined.

  • Willing to contribute fully to the wider life of a busy and thriving school community.
