Full Job Description

We are looking for an Interim Information Governance Manager to support the Council's Information Governance related activities. The post holder will undertake:

  • Working in data protection and information governance fields such as freedom of information and environmental information regulations and providing expert support and advice in these fields, with the review and maintenance of data protection impact assessments, and data protection clauses in customer and supplier contracts and sharing agreements. Thorough knowledge, understanding of and practical experience of meeting legal compliance requirements around privacy legislation such as the UK Data Protection Act, UK GDPR & Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.


  • Act as Council's Data Protection Officer and be the main contact at corporate level, working with senior officers, regulators and establishing positive networks with external Council partners in other agencies regarding data protection, privacy and information governance matters, including supporting the Council's MS Office 365 roll out across council services.


  • Development, review and updating of corporate policies and sharing agreements. Manage staff data protection and freedom of information training. Provide management performance reporting and advice and support with a strong understanding of the public sector information governance agenda.


  • Implementation and maintenance of council corporate privacy and information governance technologies (e.g. OneTrust privacy platform and Infreemation FOI case management system).


  • Line Manage IG Service Team members.


  • You will contribute towards the Council's compliance with data privacy and information governance legislation and harness great transferrable skills and project management experience enhancing your own career progression and goals.

    The successful candidate will have

  • Substantial experience in data protection and information governance fields such as freedom of information and environmental information regulations and reviewing data protection impact assessments, and data protection clauses in customer


  • and supplier contracts.
  • Thorough knowledge, understanding of and practical experience of meeting legal compliance requirements around privacy legislation such as the UK Data Protection Act and GDPR.

  • Ability to deal constructively with staff at all levels

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to review relevant legislation as it is developed and understand the implications for local government.

  • High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships across all levels of the Council to influence commitment to a GDPR compliance programme and promote privacy legislation as an enabler for innovative delivery of Council services.

  • Recognised qualification in Data Protection and Freedom of Information, such as the ISEB/ BCS Foundation/ Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection /Freedom of Information or equivalent.

  • Experience in working in an expert role within a local authority or large organisation at a senior or corporate level.

  • Strong understanding of the public sector information governance agenda.
