Full Job Description

As the Health Check Advisor, you will undertake health checks across the Borough in very varied community settings. You will provide lifestyle advice and recommend support for not only health issues but work with the voluntary sector to address wider social and personal needs.

We are, with our colleagues in primary care (GPs) the voluntary and community sector, setting up a new team to help improve the health and wellbeing of Wokingham Borough residents to reduce health inequalities and to prevent conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a team, run daily clinics across the Borough

  • Record client details

  • Take key measurements, such a Blood pressure, height and weight, glucose levels

  • Discuss wider wellbeing issues with clients

  • Record data on applications

  • Recommend next steps for the client in terms of interventions, signposting, referral of materials to support their health and wellbeing going forward

  • Work with colleagues in Primary care, community organisations, social prescribers to provide "wrap around" support, Whilst this is a fixed term contract appointment, for anyone already employed by Wokingham Borough Council this would be classed as a secondment if successful. Therefore, the usual permission requests for secondments apply and you must speak to your line manager in the first instance before applying.

    You will: -
  • have experience in a customer, patient or client facing role

  • demonstrate you can work flexibly in a team

  • be culturally aware of the needs and perspectives of differing communities

  • have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • thrive with varied timetable, visiting lots of locations and groups

  • able to work at times outside normal working hours on occasion

  • have a driving license


  • Training and support

    A background in health, care or working in the voluntary and community sector is a benefit but not essential. We will provide training and supervision, we are looking for candidates who are quick learners, can demonstrate they have those vital interpersonal skills in the team and when advising clients.
