Your new role:
The Careers Service at Southend on Sea City Council is looking for a Term time (5 days a week) Qualified Careers Adviser to provide high quality information, advice and guidance on all aspects of education, training, and employment to young people and their parents/guardians. You will be joining the connexions service on a full time and permanent basis and the contract is offered on a hybrid work pattern (blend of working from home, visiting schools / educational settings and in the office).
As a connexions adviser, you will provide high quality Careers, information, advice and guidance on all aspects of education, training and employment to young people and their parents or guardians, individually and in-groups, to enable them to make and implement effective decisions in the areas of learning, employment and personal development. You will network effectively with a wide range of specialist organisations e.g. Education Providers, Social Care, Health, Youth Justice and Voluntary and Community Groups, to ensure a 'joined up' service for young people.
You will work with voluntary, statutory and community agencies and commercial bodies to ensure a coherent approach to overcoming the barriers to learning and employment faced by individual young people. You will Work with a caseload of young people to establish their needs and offer Careers, information, advice, support and guidance where necessary. You will work with our most vulnerable young people to help them reengage back into education or training. You will also be required to support events such as GCSE and A Level results days that fall in the school holidays.
This role is term time only so the salary (£30,825) will be pro rata.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, previous experience of working in another local authority or experience of working with young people in a school / education setting would be essential. It is essential that you have good knowledge of different pathways available to young people post 16. It is vital that you can communicate effectively and professionally with families, headteachers, parent / carers, educational leaders and partner agencies both verbally and in writing. It is essential that you can build meaningful relationships with key stakeholders across all levels as you will be liaising with various people from different backgrounds. This role will suit an individual who is comfortable with public speaking.
Your application will not be considered if you do not have a minimum of Level 4 Qualification in Careers, advice and guidance or QCG or equivalent qualification.
