Full Job Description
To promote physical activity at the Space Community Hub, embedding 'active' in to existing activities , expanding the customer base for classes , engaging with the community., Reporting to the Centre Manager and the Board of trustees the key tasks include :
Ensuring active activities are incorporated in to existing offerings such as lunch club with golf putting equipment, table tennis and pool available at lunch clubs.
Designing and delivering a free weekend activity session using the existing equipment at Space and mapping out future equipment that could be lent out to the community from Space (such as weights, badminton nets & rackets)
Work with the Surestart team to develop a weekly walk for parents with pushchairs.
Engaging with existing and potential customers- determining the type of activities that are wanted to help inform development of new classes.
Promotion of existing activities on social media and with referrers such as Social Prescribers, Healthy Minds, Staying Well etc
Develop the 3 2 1 Walks initiative by leading regular walks on a Wednesday and offering a longer walk once a month
Designing new group challenges such as the Pole to Pole challenge and being a hub for the whole of Rastrick in such challenges
Recruiting new walk leader volunteers including the use of social media, attending local networking events
Map out existing exercise provision in the vicinity ( including schools, care homes , Calderdale Leisure ) and potential underused venues in the area ( St Mathew's Parish Centre , Cricket Club) so Active Rastrick has a complete overview of provision in the area.
Assist in recruiting a Park Play Leader ( this role could actually be undertaken by the same candidate as the Active Champion) .
Supervising exercise classes when the centre is not open (evening , weekends) taking payments and registers and key holding duties.
Self-starter , the individual will be required to work largely without supervision using their initiative
Flexibility - the nature of the role may vary as the contract progresses
Collaborative- the role will work closely with the centre manager and the trustees
Organised and committed
Willing to undertake training - First Aid, Walk Leader
Able to develop networks and relationships with partner organisations and services, Lives on the Field Lane Estate or within 2 miles
The role is for 10 hours per week (flexible hours but core days will be Weds, Fri , Sat) , based at the Space Community Hub. . This is a fixed term contract for 6 months contract on a self-employment basis paid at £11 p/h.
