Full Job Description

The Regional Market Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective day to day running of our Market sites to ensure we deliver a first-class service for our local authority partners, traders and members of the public shopping at our sites.

The Regional Market Manager is responsible for all elements of the sites, which includes:

· Operational planning and management

· Compliance management

· People management

· Financial management

The Market Manager must demonstrate good leadership and interpersonal skills and have the ability to build long-term relationships with stakeholders.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Operational planning & Management:

· Responsible for communicating with traders via telephone / email in advance of market days to ensure regular traders are booked on to their pitch and confirming bookings for casual traders

· Forward plan to ensure that site plans are comparable to the number of traders attending each market

· Undertake regular pro-active planning to ensure any premarket issues are dealt with and resolved (e.g. cancellations etc.)

· Deal with initial queries from traders which may range from payment issues to them being dissatisfied with their pitch etc.

· Undertake weekly inspections on all equipment and request any work to be undertaken on equipment as required

Compliance Management:

· Ensure that traders are operating within the specific rules as stipulated by the local authority (e.g., not able to set up until a certain time / vehicle must be moved off the market site etc.)

· Work with the Regional Operations Manager closely.

People Management:

· Line Management responsibility for Market Operatives (includes dealing with low level employment issues, completing staff 1:1's and appraisals etc.)

· Approve employees holiday requests

· Ensure that employees are following the correct procedure for clocking in and out of work (timesheets) and provide support on the process when required

· Able to build effective relationships with staff and confident in addressing any people management issues which arise (with the support of Human Resources)

· Ability to identify training needs in team members and positively work with those individuals for their personal development

Financial Management:

· Responsible for completing day sheets with details of daily market takings

· Collecting daily rents from traders (cash or card)

· Responsible for ensuring daily takings are checked, recorded correctly and are submitted to the bank / night safe each day

Other:

· Any other duties that are reasonably requested by management,

  • Do you hold a full UK driving licence?

  • This role is an outdoor position. Can you foresee any issues with working outdoors?

    It is essential that the successful candidate has experience of working within the retail/market sector


  • Experience within a customer facing role and confident in developing relationships with individuals

    Strong time management skills and the ability to use initiative

    Experience of managing people is desirable however training will be provided

    A full UK driving licence is essential

    Comfortable working within an outdoor environment and happy to undertake manual handling (the role requires supporting your team with erecting/dismantling market stalls)

    Flexibility to travel to different sites across the UK as and when required
