Full Job Description

We are searching for a Production Technician to join our expanding team at Vivergo Fuels. If you have experience with either distillery, brewery or animal feed production, this could be the role for you!
Our shift-based teams work on a rotation that covers 24/7 operations. Working under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, our technicians each take care of their specialist areas, while liaising with other technicians, control room operators and maintenance technicians to ensure the plant is run and maintained to the highest safety standards on our top tier COMAH site.
You'll ideally have experience in one of the three main areas of our plant, which are:

  • Animal Feed - (Decantation, DDGS drying and Pelleting)

  • Distillery - (Distillation, Evaporation, Molecular Sieve Dehydration, Tank Farm, and Process Condensate Treatment)

  • Industrial Brewing - (Wheat transfer equipment, mills, Liquefaction, Fermentation and Chemical Storage)


  • We would be interested to hear from you if you have experience in any one of these areas, as you will be aligned to your specialism once you join us. If you have an interest in growing your skills into other areas, this could also happen over time.
    Ensuring that all systems are operated safely, efficiently, and with maximum availability, and that emergency equipment is maintained in a state of readiness and availability, along with carrying out routine tasks in line with Operating Procedures, The Production Technician is also responsible for the preparation and isolation of plant and equipment for maintenance and reinstatement, including pressure and leak testing.

    Key Responsibilities
  • An assessed knowledge of either Animal Feed, Distillery or Brewery on an industrial site.

  • Compliance with Vivergo Fuels operating standards and procedures.

  • Ensuring that operations and cleaning activities are expedited in a safe and timely manner.

  • Interactions within the bio-ethanol shift team, contributing assistance to others under supervision.

  • Compiling and maintaining an accurate record of shift activities and conducting a formal hand over to oncoming shift team colleagues.

  • Write and issue Control of Work, including Isolation Windows, for jobs within the specialised area.


  • Working hours
    Shifts are 12 hours long on a 4 on/6 off basis (2 days, 2 nights, 6 off). The plant will be operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

    You'll be self-driven, results orientated with a positive outlook and a clear focus on safety, high quality, and commercial success for Vivergo.
    A natural forward planner who critically assesses their own performance and maintains high personal and professional standards, you'll have a high attention to detail and be able to focus on the task at hand without distraction.
    Essential and Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrated experience within one of the three required environments

  • Mechanical technician training at or beyond NVQ2 standard

  • Experience operating PLCs is preferred but not essential

  • Technicians should be articulate to an appropriate level in technical subjects and able to follow written procedures

  • Understanding of top tier COMAH regulations

  • Most of the operated plant areas are outside in the open and work in all weathers is expected

    Vivergo Fuels operates on the Saltend Chemicals complex in Hull. We are part of the ABF Sugar division within ABF (Associated British Foods). ABF is a FTSE 10 group that operates in 53 countries across Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia and Australia.

    Starting salary £30,000 - £31,000 per annum, plus £9,000 shift allowance. Salary advancement with specific site training., In simple terms we convert locally sourced feed wheat into both bioethanol, a more environmentally friendly transport fuel, and a highly nutritious animal feed for the dairy industry.
