Full Job Description

As a Health and Safety Adviser you are the first point of contact for health and safety guidance for varied stakeholders across all group companies. With 95% of your focus on TTFM, you are a trusted support in both office and the field, helping engineers and account teams find solutions for issues and ensuring our core service is delivered smoothly and safely. You are required to maintain CPD and ensure your legislative and best practice knowledge is current, and to mentor & develop your direct line report, the group Health and Safety Administrator.

This role will require national travel on a monthly basis with the requirement to stay away.

Thermatic Technical FM provide complete nationwide coverage, across the full spectrum of Hard FM services to large, commercial clients. Our team of mobile engineers are supported by the account teams at Head Office to provide both reactive breakdown and planned maintenance services to our clients.,

  • Providing strategic advice and support to the Senior Leadership team, managers, and colleagues on compliance with health and safety legislation and good practice.

  • Assisting the implementation of the strategic and operational delivery of Health & Safety policies and procedures, colleague training, and awareness raising.

  • Completing annual SSIP accreditation applications including CHAS, Safe Contractor and Construction line.

  • Providing strategic progress reports for Directors/Senior Managers covering all areas of compliance performance.

  • Support of the business development team and participation in bids .

  • Provide additional advice and support to subcontractors to ensure they are maintaining Thermatic standards while working for us.

  • Reviewing organisational compliance with client on-site health & safety requirements

  • Producing site safety audit reports and arranging and required remedial work in conjunction with the account teams.

  • Liaising with clients where necessary with regard to health & safety including the reporting of any incidents or near misses and recommendations for improving on-site health and safety practices

  • In conjunction with the Operations team, managing health & safety training budgets across group including technical compliance courses.

  • Maintaining a current overview of group Health and Safety compliance.

  • Ensuring effective and relevant Health & Safety training is completed by all levels of the business within the required timescales.

  • Leading the group Health and Safety policies and associated requirements, ensuring all service delivery is conducted in line with the company health & safety standards, effectively reducing risks to the customer and people we support, staff, and subsidiaries who are involved with or are connected with the Group

  • Assisting internal and external audits (environmental, health & safety) and auditing and assessing operations for Health & Safety compliance; supporting teams with additional training as required.

  • Planning and co-ordinating the work of the Health & Safety alongside the Operations team to ensure effective and efficient delivery of all statutory and required servicing to maintain compliance with the HSE policy.

    NEBOSH General or Construction certificate (essential)

  • Membership of IOSH (minimum Technical level) with evidence of CPD

  • NEBOSH Diploma/level 6 NVQ (or working towards) in Occupational Safety & Health.

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in an operational occupational Health & Safety role.

  • In-depth knowledge of building related safety issues including asbestos, legionella, fire & gas safety

  • In-depth knowledge of work at height, PUWER, LOLER, accident investigation, work related stress, lone working.


  • Desirable:
  • Operational experience in occupational health & safety in the FM sector.

  • NEBOSH Diploma/level 6 NVQ (working towards) in Occupational Safety & Health.

  • Technical qualifications (including gas, AC, electrical or drainage)

  • Hours & Location of Work:
  • Main location - Thermatic Head Office, Salford. Opportunities to work remotely will be available + national travel will be required.

  • Regular hours of work - Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm - 40 hour working week
