Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Laboratory Assistant to join the Oxford Molecular Diagnostic Centre (OMDC), a clinically accredited, inter-disciplinary Centre funded to undertake major programmes of translational research in molecular diagnostics in cancer and haematological malignancies within the University of Oxford; with a particular focus on development and evaluation of next-generation genomic technologies for use in clinical trials.
You will play an important role in providing routine and protocol-driven technical and administrative support of clinical trials activities, sample reception and pre-processing of clinical samples collected as part of clinical trials and studies hosted in the OMDC laboratory including, but not limited to, sample reception and pre-processing, sample inventory using local laboratory management system, general housekeeping, equipment maintenance, reagent preparation, stock control and ordering. You will manage and maintain sample databases, sample inventories and ensure smooth running of the routine laboratory activities.
The post will be based at the Oxford Molecular Diagnostic Centre (OMDC), John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford, OX3 9DU, and is offered on a full-time basis, fixed-term for one year.

You will be educated to at least A-level or equivalent qualification in a scientific subject and have demonstrable knowledge and understanding of Good Laboratory Practices, Quality Assurance and regulatory framework of laboratory management in the UK. You will have strong attention to detail for data entry & demonstrable ability to maintain records in a highly accurate manner. You will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Excellent IT skills including a knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs, are essential. Experience in an ISO or GCLP accredited laboratory would be advantageous.
