Full Job Description

Over the last 5 years the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has taken a massive leap forward in its digital maturity. Central to this is the adoption of an Electronic Patient Record (EPR). While this system provides a wide range of functionality out of the box there are times when we need to develop further functionality. This is achieved by the use of Medical Logic Modules (MLM's) which use a markup Language called Arden Syntax. In this role you will be responsible for the development of the MLM's.
It is an exciting time to be a part of the GHFT EPR team. We are moving forward fast with our Digital strategy, currently in the phase of implementing a closed loop medicine administration process and delivering optimizations for other projects such as Nursing/Doctor documentation.
The team offers lots of opportunities to develop technically and has a wide range of staff members who have worked in many different departments and are happy to share their knowledge. We are determined to be at the forefront of using digital innovation in healthcare to allow clinicians spend more time with patients as well as providing them the information needed to make clinical decisions., We are looking for a skilled developer to design, create, and maintain the MLM's for our EPR system. You will be responsible for implementing clinical decision support algorithms, and ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the MLM's. You will also be engaging with stakeholders within the EPR team and across the trust to offer your expertise and advice when planning projects as well as using their knowledge to help ensure the clinical decision support algorithms conform to national standards and local policies. As a result, the successful candidate will need to show that they are able to work well in a team and are happy to consult with clinicians and subject matter experts on topics that are outside their understanding. Another key attribute will be to explain technical parts of the role in a way which is accessible to stakeholders who do not have the same level of technical understanding., Develop, implement, and support systems using a variety of technologies, tools whilst following health care standards and specifications
- Follow Trust coding standards and best practices
- Provide peer review and assistance for system development, ensuring systems are tested for accuracy, performance, data quality and resilience
- Contribute to the development strategy and associated programme of implementation of clinical systems, ensuring they support the vision of integrating all data into the main Trust EPR
- To advise on best practice on use of technology, systems, and development
- Skilling, via documentation and training, systems support teams in the maintenance of custom scripts and systems to diagnose and fix issues within their skill set and scope of role
- To assist development of clinical systems, ensuring pro-active monitoring solutions are in place to ensure they operate reliably, and performance is acceptable. This will entail capacity management, service management and change and release management
-Working with the EPR Configuration team to understand requirements for their systems, and work with suppliers and digital teams to deliver a fit for purpose solution
- Working with the IT & Cyber Teams to ensure that all components used within the department are secure, and following trust standards
-Log, manage and resolve helpdesk calls in a timely manner, ensuring end users are kept informed of progress and service is delivered to quality standards
- To be the point of escalation for resolution of issues where support teams are unable to resolve
- Working with technical teams and external suppliers in the resolution of tickets and issues on behalf of users, owning issues through to resolution
- To ensure systems are monitored, and alerts acted upon accordingly
-Contribute to development and design of data capture within systems to enable reporting. These reports form the basis for audits undertaken for data quality and reconciliation purposes
- This role also incorporates the need to communicate complex digital issues to non-digital senior staff and articulate timescales, plans, barriers and dependencies to clinical teams and senior operational managers
- Work within defined deadlines as part of a team and on an individual basis
- Proposing system developments to improve workflows, operational processes and release efficiencies through system design and optimisation
- Keep up to date with relevant technologies, new techniques and developments that might occur and provide training to others if required.
The health and wellbeing of our staff and patients remains the priority of the Trust. Vaccination remains the best chance we have of conquering COVID and the Trust encourages everyone to take up this offer.
Please note, this vacancy may close as soon as sufficient applications have been received, so please apply as soon as possible if you are interested. The Recruitment Team are unable to accept any applications after the position has closed on NHS Jobs.
