Full Job Description

1. To carry out the planned maintenance of the Hospital plant and equipment in accordance with planned maintenance dockets and unplanned work dockets. To record work completed and time taken for each docket. This to include: - Steam raising plant, steam distribution pipework, condense return systems, calorifier pumping sets, central heating systems, hot and cold-water distribution, gas boilers, air conditioning systems, plumbing systems, air compressors, drainage systems, sewers and roof repairs.
2. To diagnose and repair faults on the above plant and equipment in response to emergency calls. To assist Estates Officers in carrying out fault diagnosis and subsequently to carry out repairs or modifications.
3. To modify existing plant, equipment, controls and distribution systems. This to include, if necessary, testing of systems and completion of documentation.
4. To install temporary installations when appropriate and safe to do so.
5. To manufacture or modify equipment and parts as required from drawings and sketches using tools and equipment as appropriate.
6. To undertake testing as part of any planned maintenance and following minor installations or modifications.
7. To prepare or assist in the preparation of plant for statutory inspections.
8. To supervise the work of apprentices and assistants.
9. To undertake lift rescues., Provide and receive complex information to inform Work colleagues, patients, clients and contractors with barriers to understanding. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Patient/customer care (both direct and indirect)
Provide general non- clinical advice to clients on use of equipment's, after repair or installation of that equipment.
+ Policy & Service development
Follows policies in own role: comment on policies relating to the Department and proposes changes.
+ Resource management
Responsible for repair and maintenance of physical assets. Maintain, repair hospital equipment. Judgement involving a range of facts, which require analysis and comparison of a range of options. Problem solving and analysing faulty equipment, interpret operational manuals, establish best solution for the problem, the value of the resources; and the degree to which it is shared with others.
+ People management
Demonstrates activities to new starters. Supervises maintenance support workers.
+ Information management
Complete timesheets, information of job cards, parts required to complete the job. Re-programming Trend Building Management computer, generating information, creation, updating and maintenance of information databases or systems and the degree to which it is shared with others.
+ Research and development
Undertake surveys and audits as applicable to own work and testing of new machinery and equipment, whether it is an integral part of the work or research for personal development purposes and the degree to which it is shared with others.
