Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic HR Officer to join Eastwood Consulting Engineers from July 2024 onwards., The HR Officer role sits within our Business Support function supporting Directors with the day-to-day management and administration of employing staff. The role is hands-on and you will work in partnership with Directors and Senior Managers to ensure HR compliance and the day-to-day running of Human Resources, This is a stand-alone HR generalist role involving a wide variety of responsibilities providing HR administration and advisory services to Senior Management.,

  • Day-to-day management of the HR project management software-Deltek PIM. This includes calculating and facilitating all staff holidays electronically, staff records, timesheet administration, training records, and personal information.

  • Day-to-day management of all electronic staff files, employment & H&S documentation.

  • Coordination and conducting of staff six-month probation reviews, staff annual appraisals/personal development reviews and formal meetings such as disciplinaries, grievances etc.

  • Providing best practice and employment law guidance as required. This includes statutory guidance processes governed by legislation and codes of practice.

  • Creating, reviewing, and updating existing HR policy and procedure also in line with ISO9001.

  • Reporting and working in collaboration with Finance to produce a monthly payroll.

  • Obtaining external advice as needed.


  • HR REPORTING
  • Producing weekly staff quarterly (board meeting) HR reports for Director meetings including turnover, sickness, appraisals, recruitment, headcount, succession planning, and reporting on current people-related cases.

  • Monitoring staff sickness including advising on capability cases.


  • RECRUITMENT
  • The coordination of recruitment campaigns, writing and advertising vacancies, working with recruitment agencies, and internal marketing to attract applicants.

  • Ensuring all recruitment agencies work to our agreed terms and conditions and monitoring the introduction of candidates to the business.

  • Graduate, Summer Placement, and Apprenticeship Recruitment campaigns. Attending university and school events to promote the organization and career opportunities.

  • Conducting and organising interviews. seasonal summer placement and graduate recruitment campaigns and along with associated offer and induction packs.

  • The induction of all new members of staff.

  • Managing Home Office sponsorship license and applying for sponsorship for international staff (when required).


  • TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
  • Supporting the coordination of professional development for all technical staff (ICE, IStructE, CIWM), and facilitating Technical Forums.

  • Participation in IPD reviews with Engineers where required alongside mentors for ICE and Universities.

  • Liaison with Further and Higher Education establishments to enable our Engineers to achieve degree apprenticeships and Level 3 & 4 technical qualifications.

  • Managing and facilitating the government Apprenticeship Levy Scheme.

  • Recording and monitoring staff training records to ensure safety-specific training is renewed and completed within deadlines.

  • Coordinating CITB MAP and OP tests and applying for CSCS cards for all Technical Staff


  • HEALTH & SAFETY
  • Working with H&S specialists (internally and externally) and Office Manager to develop policy, carry out H&S Audits, Fire Risk Audits and training when required.

  • Producing Risk Assessments - Mental Health/Stress and Office Risk Assessments

    Ideally, you will have a CIPD professional qualification or be working towards one and have up to 5 years of experience working within a generalist Human Resources role. You do not need to have a degree but we would expect a good standard of Level 4 qualifications in Maths, English, and Science., Ideally, the person must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a Human Resources function either as a Senior HR Administrator or HR Officer/Advisor. It is understood that not all candidates may have previous experience of all these functions but be able to learn quickly., We are looking for a person with a Level 3 to 7 qualification within Human Resource or Business Management, ideally professionally certified through the CIPD.


  • Level 3 and 4 qualifications (GCSE's) in Maths, English and Science subjects with grades C (or equivalent) and above, are required for this role.

    SKILLS

    You will need to be competent in using Microsoft packages such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint which is essential to this role.

    Good attention to detail and accuracy are essential to this role. The person must also have the following basic skills:
  • A good standard of written and spoken English.

  • The ability to use Microsoft Office and to include Word, Excel, and Outlook.


  • You must be highly organised, confident in communicating with all levels of staff and be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.

    Eastwood is a busy civil engineering design consultancy based in Nether Edge Sheffield, employing up to 100 staff.

    HOURS OF WORK: 25 to 37.5 hours a week (over 5 days) depending on the candidate.


  • If the role is accepted less than full time additional HR administration support would be provided for the role.

    SALARY: £28k- £32k FTE dependant on experience, Pay: £28,000.00-£33,000.00 per year

    Expected hours: 37.5 per week
