Full Job Description

Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Counsel / Senior Counsel through May 29th at 11:59 p.m.

The successful candidate must be able to provide timely, practical, efficient, and high quality legal advice to Chevron's LNG origination, trading, and operations teams (on both physical and financial transactions), their support functions and business management in Europe and the United States.

The required legal work will include:

  • Reviewing, negotiating, and drafting master LNG sale and purchase agreements, long term LNG sale and purchase agreements (supply and sell sides), short term contracts and financial trades.

  • Advising clients on legal issues associated with purchasing, selling, and marketing LNG.

  • Advising clients on legal issues associated with regassification, storage and related agreements.

  • Advising clients on legal issues relating to international and cross-border transactions.

  • Providing advice and training on regulatory compliance and compliance with Chevron's corporate policies.

  • Providing legal advice to Compliance, Finance, Contracts, Tax, Credit, and Government and Public Affairs specialists in relation to LNG transactions.

  • Handling the life cycle of disputes relating to the supply and trading of LNG.

  • Handling LNG SPA Price Review negotiations and associated arbitration.


  • Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
  • Review, negotiate and draft contracts related to LNG marketing transactions, including physical and financial purchase and sale agreements, master sale and purchase agreements, long term sale and purchase agreements, marketing agreements, regassification and related agreements and storage agreements.

  • Negotiate resolution of claims associated with LNG contracts and support litigation/arbitration efforts as required if the matter is escalated.

  • Provide legal support for LNG price reviews and associated arbitrations.

  • Provide advice and training on compliance and risk exposure under relevant laws and regulations including competition law, market manipulation rules, international trade, import/export rules, anti-corruption laws, corporate governance, anti-boycott and sanctioned parties and internal tax/legal policies.

  • Provide advice and guidance to, and collaborate with, lawyers in other Chevron business units (in London as well as other jurisdictions/time zones), ensuring maximum effective use of in-house legal resources.

  • Consult and manage, in a cost effective manner, with outside counsel when necessary and appropriate in accordance with Chevron's Outside Counsel Guidelines.

  • Participate on internal teams and committees, as assigned.

  • International travel will occasionally be required.

  • Availability for calls and conferencing outside normal work hours will occasionally be required.

    The attorney must have excellent communication skills and be able to maintain the highest level of client confidence and satisfaction, in a fast paced, highly competitive trading environment, while at all times emphasizing compliance with all applicable laws and adhering to highest ethical standards.


  • The ability to support LNG shipping matters including charters and operations is preferred.,
  • Lawyer qualified to practice in UK.

  • At least 5 years PQE with experience in supporting LNG short and long-term transactions including contract drafting, negotiation, and price reviews.

  • Experience in reviewing, negotiating and drafting LNG shipping-related contracts including charterparties, shipping disputes, and shipping operational issues is preferred.

  • Experience in handling the life cycle of disputes relating to LNG contracts.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and decisively to client needs in a rapidly changing and fast paced highly competitive trading environment, while at all times emphasizing compliance with all applicable laws.

  • Ability to effectively manage a high volume of complex and diverse matters concurrently, provide support and advice to multiple teams and manage conflicting and evolving work demands.

  • Capable of working in a team environment and partnering with clients, Chevron SMEs, other Chevron in-house counsels, in-house counsels from counterparties, outside counsel, and Chevron support staff.

  • Sound understanding of corporate and legal structures and associated policies and practices.

  • International travel will occasionally be required on short notice.
