Full Job Description

Wildgoose Rural Training is a care farm based just outside Worcester providing meaningful day opportunities for adults with learning difficulties and young people who struggle with the normal school curriculum. We are also custodians of beautiful 36-acre nature reserve described as one the best mosaics of wildlife habitats in Worcestershire. We have recently developed our site and with the help of several funders and have built a new visitor centre and tearoom. We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking member of the team to take the tearoom into the future and develop an excellent reputation for quality food and a strong customer base. This is an exciting post and will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to develop an innovative menu using local seasonal produce that promotes British farming and rural life. The successful candidate will work closely with the Kitchen and Front of house Managers, setting high standards of service, food, and care.

In addition, there will be some of the Wildgoose students working in the tea-room, they will be students who may have a learning difficulty or other disability. Their role will be important and underpin the ethos of an inclusive and accepting place of work. The successful candidate will be expected to train and supervise these students and help them to achieve their greatest potential as members of the catering team.

Main Job purpose

To be a flexible part of the team responsible for ensuring the effective operation of our tearoom, including

Assisting with the creation and evolution of our menu, designing interesting dishes for our specials board, Cooking, food and beverage service, stock management, sourcing local quality produce, supporting our students and providing excellent customer care. You will be willing to get stuck in and help to drive the success of the tea room through your creative flair and proactive attitude.

Principal duties and responsibilities

1. Key holder responsibilities including opening, closing, and ensuring the tearoom

is always secure. Helping with setting up and closing the tearoom each day.

2. Willingness to attend training as appropriate, including Basic Food Hygiene and Health &

Safety training, first aid and refresher training as appropriate.

3. Barista Training to be on going, including the development of team members and

refresher training as products develop, to the chosen Coffee suppliers Barista standards.

4. Cash handling, float management and till reconciliation daily. Staff training on till

operations, and implementing till and pricing updates. Prompt and accurate cashing up at the end of the day, and transfer of money into safe.

5. To assist with the ordering and storage of food, beverages, and cleaning products liaising

with the managers on any additional stock changes or requirements.

6. Regular stock takes and reconciliation. Maintaining adequate stock levels of ingredients, produce, drinks, crockery and disposables

7. Immediately inform the managers of any financial issues that arise whilst working.

Ensure all relevant staff adheres to current financial policies.

8. Be responsible for the smooth running of the tearoom during events this will include catering,

hosting and late night/weekend opening, working with Senior Management Team and Development Team.

9. To be professional, polite, and well-presented whilst providing and maintaining excellent

customer care always.

10. Ensure that the coffee shop is sufficiently stocked to meet demand, stock awaiting sale

is kept at optimum condition and wastage is minimised and recorded.

11. Ensure the coffee machines and other equipment is in good working order and maintained on a regular basis.

12. Maintain a clean and tidy shop/tearoom area. Including clearing of tables, floors, and waste

Areas.

13. Assist the Development Team and Management Team with the effective promotion and advertising of tearoom, services activities, and products, completing all required paperwork.

14. Ensure the daily and weekly cleaning schedules are completed to a high standard.

15. Work with the staff/students in achieving the daily sales targets.

16. Receive deliveries, including the checking of delivery notes and verification of

delivered goods.

17. To bring creative ideas to the menu with passion and a "can do" attitude.

18. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities required at any time commensurate

with the grade of the post.

· Good level of numeracy in order to carry out cash handling duties and book work.

· Good level of literacy in order to carry out bookwork, place orders, stock control and other

· Clerical duties in connection with the post.

· Experience of working in a café / food environment.

· Knowledge of Food Hygiene, Health and Safety regulations and their application in a café / kitchen.

· Barista trained or willing to be trained.

· Must be alert and able to react in case of emergency.

· If possible you should hold a driving licence and drive your own vehicle.

Communication & Team Work

· A sense of responsibility to the café ethos and to that of the organisation.

· Ability to be diplomatic, approachable and sensitive to the needs of others.

· Knowledge of good customer care practice and experience of working in a customer focused

· Environment.

· Ability to communicate face to face, by telephone and in writing.

· Able to train, guide and lead other staff members.

· Experience of supervising staff.

· To be committed and sensitive to ensuring equality of opportunity in service provision and employment practices.

·To be willing to work alongside students from Wildgoose Rural Training, these will often be adults with learning difficulties who will need supervision, encouragement and guidance.

Work Related Circumstances

· Must be flexible to meet the needs of the service.

· Willingness to attend training courses relevant to your position.

· Willingness to work outside of normal working hours as required, to support hospitality events.

· Willing to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check

The successful candidate will be expected to work 5 days per week 0800-1600 on a rota to include some weekend working. This may change as the business develops and we find the peaks and troughs of customers. There may also be some flexibility for shared working with another successful candidate.

The hourly rate will be £12.50., Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: £11.00-£12.00 per hour
