Full Job Description

Day to day duties include;

  • Timber selection and sizing ready for machining

  • Gluing and cramping to produce panels ready for further processing

  • Interpreting drawings to produce cutting lists and rods

  • Marking out and machining of timbers

  • Assembling and jointing

  • Finishing to a given standard ready for passing to paint shop, Maintaining a clear and safe working environment

  • Daily cleaning/sweeping of the dust extract plant and briquette manufacturing building

  • Checking in of stock and correctly storing the items

  • Construction of drawer inserts for our kitchen team

  • Assisting senior joiner with all processes, You will be on your feet for the whole day and your day may sometimes involve physical duties such as manual handling of materials or assisting with deliveries. Public transport is not easily accessed from our location, please consider how you would travel to the site.

    Once qualified you will normally work as a junior cabinet maker or bench joiner for another two years to properly hone your skills. Speed, accuracy and problem solving cannot be taught in a classroom, they are not obtained with a certificate and only come with experience. Progression from this point will be entirely on merit and will lead to becoming a senior bench joiner or cabinet maker where you will be responsible for your own jobs from start to finish. Progression beyond this may include becoming a supervisor of other members of staff, or a workshop manager or moving into fitting of the furniture on site. You may also find you have a natural affinity to becoming a workshop machinist or even a finisher/painter. Opportunities may arise to become more office-based and get involved in site measuring and producing cutting lists and drawings and ordering of materials., Communication skills, Attention to detail, Organisation skills, Problem solving skills, Number skills, Logical, Team working, Creative, Initiative, Patience, Physical fitness, Timekeeping and punctuality, GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 9-3/A-D) Essential

    Churchill Brothers design, manufacture and install bespoke household furniture and joinery items. We currently employ a total of 18 people. We have one site to include factory and office and 1 offsite showroom. We are based in Suffolk in the village of Leavenheath. We offer employee pension scheme and free on site parking.
